Dear George and Stephanie,
I wanted to share some of the photos of the dogs and some cool grouse hunting stats for them.
Gunner and Gwen are two of the most phenomenal grouse / woodcock dogs in the midwest.......not my opinion but one mentioned to me by long time grouse hunters in the midwest. Gunner was bred, born and trained at Von Weider Kennels, Gwen was trained at Von Weider Kennels.
Both dogs have developed over the years into a true compliment to each other. Gunner does more of the farther out ranging, Gwen stays tighter. Both dogs honor each other's points and both equally share the retrieving - though Gunner seems to "tolerate" the gamey taste of woodcock better than Gwen. To watch them work a grouse covert is true art in itself. They both hold their points well, but both have also developed an uncanny ability to keep up w/ the running grouse - for those of you who don't grouse hunt...yes, grouse run and believe me when I tell you they can move!
How successful are Gunner and Gwen??.......well, here's our fall flush rates for the last four years......2008, 165 grouse, 194 woodcock.......2009, 130 grouse, 127 woodcock........2010, 131 grouse, 99 woodcock and then this past fall - 2011 - 275 grouse and 116 woodcock. While Gunner and Gwen still love their hunts at Upland Meadows w/ chukar's and pheasants, their true love - and mine as well - are the grouse coverts of the midwest.

Dear George and Stephanie,
Here is another picture of Klaus and Hans. This one is after a great wild chuckar hunt. They are doing wonderfully I am having a great time with them.
Thanks!
Dear George and Stephanie,
A little update for you on how our new puppy Avery is doing. We flew home with her 2 weeks ago today and she did absolutely outstanding on the flight home. We didn't so much as hear even one whimper. We were both shocked. She has been eating and drinking very well and is adjusting to potty training very well. Getting her used to a leash was a bit of a challenge, but she has done an excellent job with that one also. Jen even took her out for a short jog the other day and she did awesome. Mom, the kids, and I are adjusting very well and Avery has been nothing short of an awesome addition to our family. Thank you both very much for giving us this blessing.
Hi George and Steph –
Miya is doing great…and continues to perform extremely well. She loves being in the field. We just completed a European Hunt this past weekend at “The Huntsman” in Dryden, MI. Miya came out for the afternoon (clean up) field hunt and really put on a show. We had a guide with us…but she was the only dog used for our portion of the hunt. She held one point with a rooster about 12” from the end of her nose……awesome!
Hope things are going well for you both.
Greetings Stephanie and George,
All I can say is THANK YOU ! from the bottom of my heart!
She is a sweety. Fast learner, and a bottomless pit! Fully paper trained- thanks to you guys starting her that way. She hates the cold--sits on the register waiting for the blower to kick in, bout 70 in here...
I just love her to death!
Hi George,
The first night went OK as "Wyatt" walked around his new home getting familiar with his new surroundings. It is really neat to watch him observe, learn and grow with each breath. Ashley and I had a hard time leaving for work today as we have found we love a dog more than what we ever realized we could. We played all night with him until he got tuckered out and is out cold right now. We are extremely grateful for Wyatt and the insights you have provided. We feel very blessed to have Wyatt in our lives and I'm excited to share many great memories with my new hunting "buddy". I'm also excited for you guys to work with him out in the field in a few months even though we will miss him like crazy!
Hi George & Stephanie,
I just wanted to thank you again for our puppy!! We named him Murphy. We thought the name was different, until 2 days later when we looked at his papers and saw that it was his grandpa's name..=) He is such a great addition to our family!!
We will keep you updated on his progress!! (OH...and he is pretty much potty trained already!!)
Thanks Again!!
Dear George & Stephanie,
God Bless!!
Hope You're Enjoying The "Fall" Weather Too!!

Dear George & Stephanie,
Just thought you may enjoy a few pictures Gail took of Dan.
I cannot thank you enough for Dan. He is my life.
Dear George & Stephanie,
The picture of Liebe was taken on her third hunt, November 12th. The birds are ones that she pointed and retrieved solo. She is watching my other dog Blaze, the nearly twelve year old champ pheasant getter who is just out of the photo.
Blaze's hunt mate, my partner's Brittany, Hope, acted funny two weeks ago, although hunted well. She was taken to the vet and diagnosed with cancer. She died a week ago today (November 14th) at the age of 11.5 yrs. Sad as that is, Liebe is up to the task of filling the brace. The almight does watch over us bird hunters.
Liebe's house training is progressing. There are fewer accidents and mischief each passing day. She is inquisitive and likes to explore everything. That's the puppy in her. But, she is learning what not to do in the house. I have her out each day heeling and retrieving to keep her sharp.
The other photo shows that she has been well accepted by the other two. The couch potato is Belle, the floor snoozer is Blaze.
Our best wishes to both of you and your family for the upcoming Thanksgiving Day holiday

George,
Here are some picuters of Katie and Sage. They are both great dogs and we are very happy with them. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

George,
Just found these pictures of Willa thought you would like to see them. We had a great season and shot more than fifty birds over her.
She is doing great loves the kids and has become a big part of the family.

Hi George and Stephanie!
I am not sure if you remember me, but my name is Ripp. I turned 11 this past June and keep forgetting that it's ok to slow down a little. My family keeps me so busy, that I look forward to my naps. Dad Joe has taken me out to South Dakota more than once, where I earned "star dog" award; heck, I was just having fun! He also takes me fishing almost every weekend in the summer, and I always have to show him where the fish are by hanging over the edge of the boat and pointing. Fishing is my next love right after birds-I can barely contain my excitement when dad gets the rods and tackle box. I tore my ACL a few years ago, and that was rough going. But with Momma Barb's daily walks, (each one gradually longer and faster), I was able to run and jump again after a few months. I do a lot of swimming and fetching at my cottage with my boy and girl as well as their cousins. Too bad those dock jumping competitions weren't around when I was a few years younger because I would have schooled those young pups! I am looking forward to cooler weather and the snow. Helping out with snow removal is one of my responsibilities. Attached is an image after swimming at my lake. Let me know if you would like to see more pics of me!

George and Stephanie,
We thought you might like to see Rowdy in action on his third birthday. God Bless!!

George and Stephanie,
First, I want to thank you and Stephanie for boarding/training my Llewellin setter Annie Mae while I was on vacation. I know she was well taken care of and had the time of her life while you worked with her in the field on her backing abilities. When my friends asked me what I did with my dog while on vacation I told them Annie is enjoying herself in "Doggy Paradise". She was probably having a better time than I was.
Second, I also wanted to let you know how privileged I feel to be a member of Von Weider Kennels. As you know, 6 years ago when I first moved to Southwest Michigan I researched possible places to have someone work with me on the training of my setter and wanted to make sure she received the right kind of instruction. I want you to know you have by far exceeded my expectations and have delivered to me a companion that is well behaved, obedient, a great hunting dog, and a great family member. I know your dog of choice is the German Shorthair Pointer and that you've been breeding them for over 25 years with top quality results but I'd say you have done a pretty good job training "dogs with tails" too. I've seen you work with Retrievers, Brittany’s, Pointing and Setter breeds of all types, even a Labradoodle and produce excellent results. You're the best in my book. I haven't found anyone better.
Thanks for all you do!

George and Stephanie,
Look how our little boy has grown up! Hudson is the best dog we have ever owned. He brings up joy every single day. Mark looks forward to hunting with him next year. Thank you again for all your flexibility as we went through the process of getting him. He has truly changed our lives for the better.
George,
These pictures were taken 12/28/10. Alton and I were hunting north close to the Oregon border. Dixie was outstanding pointing and retrieving. Every trip she is learning more and more about how to handle these wild birds. Hope you like the photos.

George and Stephanie,
When I agreed to let my husband send our Von Weider puppy for the board in training, I was petrified he would come back to us a different dog and not remember us. Well, he did come back a different dog... he listens now! It took him all of about 15 minutes to get reacquainted with our house, especially our bed! I cannot imagine having another dog that does not go through this program. This picture was taken the day he earned his NSTRA Amateur Championship just before his second birthday.

George and Stephanie,
Here is Rayce at base camp in Alaska. He is not quite a year old and is doing great. He is a wonderful dog. Hope you like the pictures.
